OSHA and Health Canada = Powerful Partnership

Global Partnership Handshake

OSHA and Health Canada have announced their continued partnership to align regulatory approaches on labeling and workplace chemical classification requirements through the Regulatory Cooperation Council.

“We work in a global environment with varying and sometimes conflicting national and international requirements,” said Dr. David Michaels, OSHA’s Assistant Secretary of Labor. “Through this partnership, OSHA and Health Canada will work together to reduce inconsistencies among hazard communication regulations and provide concise information to protect workers exposed to hazardous chemicals without reducing current protections.”

The partnership was designed to implement a system where both countries would use the same labels and safety data sheets. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by both parties in 2013 to implement the Globally Harmonized System of Classifications and Labeling of Chemicals.
