Chemical Companies Still Non-Compliant with GHS Standards

New GHS Labeling Compliance Date Upcoming

GHS standards for labelingA recent study conducted by the labeling solutions company, Loftware Inc., reveals new insights on the status of companies in compliance with GHS standards.  150 companies were included in the survey with about 90% of the companies located in the United States.

According to the survey, only 45% of the companies were able to meet the June 1, 2015 deadline.  The widespread failure to comply with the new GHS regulation can be attributed to many reasons, most notably the lack of awareness regarding the specific requirements.  Almost 50% of the respondents cited the steep learning curve as a major obstacle in becoming GHS compliant.

GHS compliance covers everything from employee training, to record keeping, and hazard communication.  More than just a change in format, chemicals found listed on a GHS compliant SDS are categorized in accordance with new GHS standards.  What was at one time a level 1 carcinogen may now be a level 2 carcinogen.  Quantum provides MSDS conversion services to help companies meet GHS compliance standards utilizing a software solution configured to efficiently and effectively produce GHS compliant SDS.  Click for more information on Quantum’s MSDS conversion service.

The study further revealed that 72% of supply chain professionals believe that the inability to meet GHS standards will result in disruptions to the business, delays in the supply chain, loss of customers, and regulatory fines.
