FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—August 2, 2011—Ypsilanti, MI—Quantum Compliance Systems will release an update to their FacTS™ EHS environmental management software in September 2011 to support anticipated OSHA rules for customers tracking inbound SDS.
OSHA is expected to finalize the new hazardous communication rules the fall of 2011 to incorporate the United Nation’s Global Harmonization System (GHS) standard (http://www.osha.gov/dsg/hazcom/ghs.html). The new standard includes classifying chemicals and products into one of 28 hazard classifications, and using predefined hazard statements, signal words, and pictogram based on the classification on the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and label. Companies are expected to have three years to comply with this portion of the new regulations.
The software update adds fields to store the hazard classification, adds a flag to track if an SDS is GHS format compliant, and supports printing chemical labels with the new hazard statements, signal words, and pictograms. Existing clients are being contacted to schedule receipt of the update. Project managers will work with our customers with custom chemicals labels to update those programs appropriately.
Last summer Quantum released new MSDS Authoring and Distribution software that generates SDS according to GHS rules as adopted by the European Union, and individual countries in Europe, Asia, and Australia.
